Tell us about the inspiration behind your work, specifically the colour stories you tell and how you fell in love with glass
Casa LV is the shared vision of two friends, Lynne and Vilma, based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Vilma has been a collector of glass for decades – exploring the world and finding unique pieces for her now-extensive collection. Her Italian heritage has always found fascination in the limitless forms and colours that glasswork can bring to life.
Lynne spent her childhood appreciating glass, as she would visit her father’s glassmaking factory. Her mother, a gifted florist, inspired Lynne’s love of flowers - which find their perfect companion in the glass vessels that hold them.
Our colour ranges were born during the bleak times of lockdown and the Coronavirus.
Tell us more about how your designs are made and the artisan skills that go into making them
Each piece is entirely hand-blown from start to finish. No molds are used, nor are two pieces ever the same. What makes our glass different is the weight, functionality and quality of the product.
Describe your design studio/space to us
Our glass is blown by our Master Glass Blower and designed by us around our kitchen tables, which double up as our studio/creative space.
Who/what are your biggest design influences?
Italian glass and architecture.
What’s your personal interiors aesthetic?
I would describe our style as a collection of pieces we have sourced from around the world over the years. We love a traditional home, artworks everywhere, and a comfy gathering space is essential for friends and family.
Good food, good company, plenty of laughs and of course a great CASA LV collection.
How do you hope your pieces will be used and interpreted in people’s homes?
Functionally and aesthetically.
What was the last good piece of advice you received?
Italian Quote: “ La pazienza e la virtu dei forti. Translates to: Patience is the virtue of the strong.
What three tenets do you try and run your business by?
Innovation, quality and girl power!
Where do you go to escape?
No brainer, Italy.
