Born and raised in London, Laura Hau grew up with a keen interest in interiors and the art of great lighting, inspired by the bright colours and bold patterns she experienced in the homes she lived in as a child.
Laura’s house is a delightful extension of her approach to print and colour – blending eye-catching fabrics and soothing tones with unique antique pieces. Take a look around and get an insight into Laura’s design process below.

Kate: Describe your interior style in 3 words?
Laura: Comfortable, layered, colourful.
Kate: What’s the first thing you think of when decorating a space in your home?
Laura: How can I make the space work best for my family? This will have an effect on what furniture is appropriate for the room and also what textures and colours I choose. It’s important that the design is practical as well as aesthetically pleasing!

Kate: What is your favourite room in your home and why?
Laura: Most likely, my living room. I opted to paint it in 'Invisible Green' by Edward Bulmer, a choice I hesitated over, but it turned out to be the best decision I made. The room is a mixture of colourful, patterned, upholstered furniture and inherited antiques. The combination works beautifully in this space. Moreover, it's a relaxed space that the whole family enjoys. It makes me feel happy whenever I’m in there.

Kate: What’s the most sentimental piece of furniture or art in your home and why?
Laura: I have a stunning oil painting by Phoebe Dickinson depicting the view from my father's house in the Drakensberg, South Africa. He passed away 14 years ago, making it a poignant reminder of him. Phoebe's use of colour perfectly captures the essence of the place. This painting holds immense sentimental value and brings back memories of him and the stunning scenery he loved every time I look at it.

Kate: What drew you to Hadeda, and which is your favourite Hadeda piece in your home?
Laura: Living in Cape Town, I have such an appreciation for the many local artisans that live here. Hadeda manages to curate their products so that they work for an “English” aesthetic, which is what I tend to lean towards. My favourite piece is my new pendant light that I have hung in my hallway. We bought the house with a fairly ostentatious chandelier, which I have wanted to change since we moved it. The space has been instantly transformed.
